Most teachers are readers and naturally share their love of reading with students; guiding and extending them to read at increasing levels of complexity, for information and pleasure. But can we say the same about writing? Teachers regularly ask students to write for different purposes, but often without the same level of personal experience as writers themselves. This workshop will give teachers a variety of opportunities to write, using diverse strategies to prompt ideas and thinking, with a particular focus on using visuals as a stimulus. Time will be given for reflection, refinement and the giving and receiving of feedback with peers. Through their own writing experiences, participants will leave with a renewed zest for writing and greater confidence to authentically support young writers.
